         The ancient prophet Ether wrote his Nation's history over four thousand years ago.  A very short version is found in the "Book of Ether" that was recorded by Mormon and Moroni in the 5th century AD.  It was included in the Book of Mormon at the time Moroni assembled it.  Those pure hearted descendants of Noah are called "The Jared-ites." Jared, (whose descendents were polical leaders) and his brother (a spiritual leader,) were grandsons of Noah, who led their family groups to this promised land of the Americas between BC 2250 up to BC 1800.  This was under the direction of the Great Creator who Cherokee 'Old Ones' called, "The Lord of Wind, Waters and Fire."  The Brother of Jared was noted as one of the most spiritual men that had ever existed.  It has been given as prophecy to Latter-day Saints that all of Ether's record of the Jaredite Nation will be given to the world in time.

   

         Jardite information was recorded again in the 1800's when Ether's ancient gold plates were brought forth by heavenly means and translated in New York by a young man.  Today clay tablets found in the 1900s, at Ebla in the Babylonian area, are telling the stories of those people.  Latter-day information, combined with Cherokee legends, cause our Latter-day Saint/Cherokee family to recognize the brother of Jared as one of the most honored peacekeeper progenitors of the modern Cherokee.  The Prophet Ether records Jared as being the first man after Adam to have sufficient faith to have the Savior reveal the body of his spirit to him.  Generally, Latter-day Saints who do not have Cherokee family history and who do not know of ancient Cherokee legends, usually ask us the question: "How can it be said that the Cherokee descend from whom we know as the People of Jared.  It says in the Book of Ether that when the Jaredite Nation came to the American Continents during the Babylonian times, their complete Nation was destroyed?   It also appears that Ether was the last Jaredite person of his Nation, making descendants impossible."   ???

We also have the same type of questioning with other Cherokee blooded individuals who have never heard of the name Jared, who perhaps may think we are making up stories that "just are not true."  It may appear that we are standing between a rock and a hard spot.  However, we are convinced that rock is crystal clear upon careful prayer and research.  Several years ago when a group of non-related Latter-day Saints joined together and began to learn about our Cherokee heritage, information began pouring in from many different Cherokee family lines that now exist.  Many had the same histories.  Unfortunately, we are aware that thousands of Cherokee descendants generally are not in agreement on cultural customs, family histories, their origin or spirituality.  We are a humble people and freely admit the diversified beliefs within the Cherokee world.

         Today there are seven main Cherokee families or clans that make up the base family for the full and near full blood descendants,  as well as the enormous number of mixed blood Cherokee who are in many different countries surrounding the earth.   However, crossing over in these groups are undeniable fragments of the same story in many different family histories.  Through several sources of information we found it was particularly true of those who descend from the Appalachian "Over-The-Hill" families and the Northern Georgia people.   Some of these groups have retained sacred stories of the "long ago time" concerning their ancestor's "spiritual path ways" as well as their ancient "journeying" histories, however the leader of this story is not known to them as Jared.   A few extremely ancient family shields, belts and staffs are among family artifacts which add wonderfull revealing information to family histories. 

         We found the legends speak of the People of Equa'haye, who is the Cherokee's most honored earth's family father.   He is also"Abraham" of the Old Testament.   Histories show that some years after the Rainbow Covenant the Creator made with Noah, that it was four of Abraham's wives and children (of blue eyes, blond hair, and fair yellow skin) left the Babylonian area in boats a few hundred years after the cities destruction.  They crossed the Atlantic ocean in order to keep their "Original Instructions" which had been given to them from the Ones Above on how to correctly return to Heaven.  They journeyed from the Mediterranean area of their ancient inheritance to "The Promised Land" of Noah on the American Continents, where they could live the "truths of the Sacred Wisdom Fire" in peace.  This took place around the time the "rock wall" (or tower) of Babel was destroyed, in BC 2,250 BC up to BC 1,800.

          

           

           They worshiped heaven's Head Voices, "The Elo," who were also called "Chota'auh'nele'eh," who are "One" in purpose.  They are three heavenly individuals of the Star World who are close to those who come to earth." They directed the spiritual lives of our ancestors and gave them instrutions for peaceful living.  Our ancient family of twelve clans, split into two main groups and left their home lands at the same time.  One group was of five family clans traveling over-land eastwardly to the Pacific Ocean in the direction of the Promised Land.  The other group of seven family clans, were taken in eight barges across the Great Waters westward in the Atlantic Ocean by A'tanv'ti, The Lord Of Wind, Waters, and Fire,  who was A'danetsi'lahu'sgi the Great Creative Being and Oon'hlah'nauhi, Maker Of All.  Among many names and in a loving manner, He was also referred to as, 'The Serpent,' who led their boats in a serpent-like manner across the top of the great deep. 

         Again there is information that The Lord brought with Him "His Sacred Code of Honor" which is still in use today by some Cherokee people.  He also brought His "Original Ark of the Covenant," which was the one given earlier to their prophet fathers.  This ark is not the Ark from Solomon's temple, as spoken of in the Bible which was lost.  He also had written information for them on how to build temples in order to use His instruction to care for others, and live the pure life needed to return to our heavenly home. Many other necessary teachings were written on stone which guided them on building a great industrial nation.  The great cities, highways, and temples built by those instructions once covered the American continents.

         Some of our family stories and their direct family genealogies go one generation at a time back as far as 1,800 BC, which are more in detail than what is found in the Book of Mormon.   They center upon the need for the true hearted people in the Mediterranean to separate themselves from the main part of the population who were not following the Sacred Original Instructions which the Creator had given them from the beginning of time.  Their relatives fell away from One Fire teachings and began building a "rock wall" to heaven out of fear for themselves as well as for a protection for themselves and families to be saved in case the Gods of the...

determined to flood the earth again.

They thought perhaps the world could be flooded again.  They remembered too well what had once happened out of disobedience to Yohowah's laws during their grandfather Noah's younger life.  Their records hint that Noah was in all probability still alive at the time they began the building of the wall. The Rainbow Promise given to Noah lived so strongly in those who were honest in heart, that even today an important Cherokee cry is still remembered as: 

    "U'nvgo'ladv Asv'nasdi Nigadv Yuwi Gana'wo'i"

"May the rainbow touch all the people's shoulders."

        Also in addition, "A Rainbow Crystal Clearing" is still used to help a person clear their mind and soul of 'not so beautiful' actions and feelings.  However, such motivations did not help those who would not walk the "White Path" to heaven.  It was they who determined not to be drowned, and were planning to out-smart the Gods by stepping off into heaven from their "wall" by their own power and wit.  This plan helped them to feel justified in not having to keep the "Blessing Ways" in order to be saved and to be able to return eventually back to their heavenly home whenever and however they wanted.  

        Some Cherokee people currently say that their Cherokee ancestors who left Noah and Equa'haye's homeland, were told that the city would be burned, destroyed and the languages of the "wall builders" would be changed into many different languages.   Even a few non-LDS Cherokee with like information, as we have, DO say that their story is basically recorded in the Latter-day Saints Book of Mormon.   They also say their ancestors are Children of Equa'haye, whose home was near Babel before their native tongue was confused.  They DO say their ancestors were visionary people of God on a daily basis.  We agree.  LDS records say that within the Peacemaker world the greatest heavenly manifestations ever given to mankind were given to the brother of Jared.   In the short excerpt of their history written in the Book Of Mormon records, the Lord says that no man up to that time had ever had so much faith in God as Jared's brother, who had daily communication with the Creator.

  

        We have no history recorded in the Book Of Mormon, concerning what happened to the Jaredite prophet Ether and his family.   Surely they retained their true spirit after the internal war which greatly depreciated the Nation.  His family whereabouts before the destruction of the Nation's operation and his travels following it were not put into the Book of Mormon. Those who had lost their spirituality really did totally lose their own National functions, but the shortened record of Ether does not state that every person who was related to the spiritually inept was killed.  The Nation's destruction happened in just a few short generations after arriving at the land that had been promised them.  Archeologists have been discovering that information received the last thirty years is confirming these stories for both the Cherokee histories and the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon.

          

        Four thousand years have past since our ancient Cherokee left their homeland.   In the year 2002 there is hope for the Jaredite descendants who are now called "Cherokee."  They are becoming once again, as great a nation as they were when the Creator walked and sailed with them so long ago.  As Latter-day saints, we accept the Brother of Jared, Mahonri Moriancumer, who was the prophet of God to our common Cherokee ancestors, those devoted to the Peacemaker.  But other white individuals also, who lived before the publishing of the Book Of Mormon, intermingled with the Cherokee in the 1600-1700's published their findings in order to prove that the Cherokee culture descended from the same source as the Hebrews, who are connected to the ancient "Ebrews" of Equa'haye's line.   We accept those who established Jerusalam as "cousins" who had the same

         Rarely do descendants of Cherokee blood agree with one another on Cherokee history, culture, and spirituality.  Some families say their family name "E'towah," has a tradition that has been passed down for two thousand years wherein the family members have been named after the Great Etowah who came there.  He told them to rebuild a temple and was to renew the temple ceremony for them.  In English, Etowah is pronounced Jehovah.  They also believe that the mounds of that area will be opened and ancient history of their people will be available for others to read about.  Many of these families accept Jesus Christ as "Etowah" and as being the Great Creator, who is the Savior who brought their people from the Mediterranean area in boats several thousands of years ago.

       

      

Some history goes back to Abraham without intermarriage with other Native Nations who also came to this land.  Many histories record having the same Blessing Way, and reveal intermarriage with a group that had been brought to the American continents under the Creator's direction, about a thousand years after the Jaredite/Cherokee came - which was close to BC 600.  Some family lines connect with "Moro'nih" who they accept as Moroni in Book of Mormon, even though they may not be Latter-day Saints themselves. 

        The Book Of Mormon tells us of Moroni, who is Mormon's son.  There is evidence in the Book Of  Mormon that Moroni's family probably had intermarriage with the Jaredite remnants after they found the Nation's depleted descendants.  However, since the history in the Book Of Mormon states that the Jaredite "Nation" (refering to the government) was destroyed, people of "all" Indian Nations most generally are classified as "Lamanites" by Latter-day Saints in common who do not consider the on going Jaredite linage.  The word "Lamanite" comes from an uncle of Moroni's line named Laman, who came to the American continents around 528 BC with his family from Jerusalem.  Most Latter-day Saints do not understand the Cherokee/Jaredite connection or of course, the later intermarriage of Jaredite remanents with Nephites and Lamanites.  All three groups are shown to be children of Abraham, however.

that Latter-day Saints have been promised

that future records will come forth revealing the

extended truths of the Cherokee/Jaredite Nation.

                 

         There are Cherokee family stories which speak of several "national  destructions" that happened to their people through those four thousand years, and also of their many survivals, touching on their constant family stamina.  There have been some members of the LDS Church who have helped to explain that all Jaredite individuals were not destroyed when their great nation had been set up as "separate kingdoms of royalty," and their wicked priestcraft followers were lost to our Father In Heaven over two thousand years ago.  Some give credence to the Cherokee/Jaredite connection also.

       

"The early One Fire Keeper families were told that  as they would serve God they would prosper, and in-as-much as they would not serve him great judgments were to come upon them.  Hence they were afflicted often times because of their wickedness. "   Orsen Pratt

"On a certain occasion there were a very few individuals, Omer and his family and some few of his friends, that were righteous enough to be spared out of a whole Nation.  The Lord warned them by a dream to depart from the land of Moran, and led them forth in an easterly direction beyond the hill Cumorah, down into the eastern countries upon the sea shore.  By this means a few families were saved, while all the balance , consisting of millions of people, were overthrown because of their wickedness."   "But after they were destroyed, (meaning the wicked) the Omerites, who dwelt in the New England States, returned again and dwelt in the land of their fathers on the western coast.''  from the Journal of Discourses  Vol 12 - pg 341 - Dec 27,1868

        

         What is even more interesting is that some Cherokee families record information of their long ago stay in the area all along the continents eastern shore line, including where the state of Delaware is now.  One group seem to have centered on the coast line of Virginia.  There was a tribe living along that area in 1617 at the time of early European colonization, called the "Amonsoquath Cherokee." They name Pocahonas as their early Cherokee grandmother.  Pocahonas's father (a Powhatan,) married a woman named Amopotoiske, who was a Cherokee.  She is Pacahonas's mother.  The Western Cherokee nation has a Pocahonas Society.  Cherokee refer to the "Delaware" Native American tribe as their "grandfathers." 

           At one time during the last two centuries the Delaware determined the Cherokee had lost their true spirituality.  Because of that, they stole the ancient "Ark Of The Covenant" the Cherokee had protected for thousands of years.  This they did because they felt the Cherokee were not keeping the spiritual laws they should have been obeying, in order to have the honor of keeping the Ark.  It wasn't until the early 1900's that the Delaware Nation returned it to them.  However, today on the Internet you can follow the on-going feud between the modern Delaware and Cherokee Nations over the long ago issue.  Certain respected spiritual leaders still care and protect historical plates, sacred artifacts and the Art in great secret.

        

        

          

LDS scholars have recorded much concerning the Jaredite Nation extension into modern days within many of their writings.  In all of Hugh Nibley's writings of the Jaredites the theme has been:

         "There is evidence in the Book of Mormon for survival of some people from Jaredite times into the times of the Nephites."  "But since legends are word of mouth tradition, the presence of Jaredite legends among the Native Americans retains a survival of the Jaredite strain among them, and at the very least such legends cannot have been transmitted from Jaredite to Lamanite hunters without long and intimate contact between the two groups.  Here, then, is a strong argument for Jaredite survivors among the Indians, and if one refuses to interpret it as such one must certainly admit extensive intercourse between the two groups in order to transmit to the Lamanites knowledge which only the Jaredites possessed.                                                             Hugh Nibley
